Everest Upgrade Overview

Everest is the Base hardfork planned after Denim. Upstream added it to the upgrades tracker on 2026-10-13. It has one feature: Base Transactions, the new transaction type from EIP-8430.

  • Base Transactions (EIP-8430) - a typed transaction (0x79) that lets an ordinary EOA batch calls into atomic phases, have a sponsor pay its gas, pay that sponsor back in a token, and run parallel or nonce-free lanes. It can also set EIP-7702-style delegation. Nodes check one secp256k1 signature for each role and never run wallet code, so no bundler or relay is involved. The full format, gas table, and RPC changes are in Base Transactions.

For most of 2026, Base described this work as native account abstraction under EIP-8130. Cobalt was to carry it, then Denim, and from September it had no fork at all (see What moved out of Cobalt). Everest gives the transaction type a fork again, but in a smaller form.

EIP-8430 is the transaction part of EIP-8130, split out on its own. The onchain actor and authenticator model, with P-256 and WebAuthn passkeys, is not in it. In the node, the gate for this transaction type moved from zenith to is_everest_active_at_timestamp. The txpool and the RPC layer both check it, and the EVM sets up the Nonce Manager system account at the same fork. Account creation and signed config batches are still in the source as entry types 0x02 and 0x03. Comments mark them as valid only under Zenith, which stays a test-only gate with no canonical schedule. The background is in Native Account Abstraction.
